A recent social media storm has fans of the legendary rock band Journey on the edge of their seats, but fear not, the band's keyboardist-guitarist Jonathan Cain is not going anywhere anytime soon!
It all started with a tweet from Journey's lead guitarist, Neal Schon, suggesting that Cain had bid farewell to the band. However, both a spokesperson for Cain and Schon himself quickly clarified the situation, putting fans' minds at ease.
In his initial tweet, Schon wrote, "Jonathan Cain announced his farewell to Journey tonight. I'm nowhere near done! Journey has so much life ahead!" He further explained that Cain wanted to pursue his ministry. But here's where it gets controversial...
A spokesperson for Cain issued a statement, clarifying that he remains an active member of Journey and is fully committed to touring with the band for the next couple of years. The spokesperson added that any reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate, and Cain has only expressed plans to retire at a later time.
Schon also clarified, confirming that Cain is indeed still playing with the band and that his departure is planned for the end of 2026 or 2027. So, Journey fans can breathe a sigh of relief and look forward to a great couple of years with the full band!
Cain and Schon are the last remaining classic members of Journey, a band that has seen its fair share of lineup changes over the years. Drummer Deen Castronovo has been a part of the band on and off since 1998, while singer Arnel Pineda joined in 2007. More recently, keyboardist Jason Derlatka and bassist Todd Jensen joined after the departures of Ross Valory and Steve Smith.
Interestingly, Schon and Cain had a legal dispute over the band's finances while still bandmates, which was finally settled in 2024.
Cain has recently been in the news for his new single, "No One Else," a tribute to the late right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, set for release on October 24th. He has also served as a worship leader at Florida's City of Destiny church, previously led by his pastor wife, Paula White-Cain, who was appointed by President Trump to lead the White House Faith Office.
So, Journey fans, it seems like you'll have a little more time to enjoy the full band's magic! But this is the part most people miss: the band's dynamic and history are ever-evolving, and these changes keep the music industry exciting. What do you think about the future of Journey? Are you excited for the upcoming years, or do you have mixed feelings about the potential departure of a classic member? Let us know in the comments!
